Line Study

So we have been working on line studies in visual communication class. Im learning how a bunch of parallel lines can communicate a message such as progression, randomness, or balance.

we then took these line studies and flipped and added them to other studies with a cool outcome.
and after that we took all of our lines and combined line images to scanners photo copiers and projectors to further manipulate horizontal and vertical lines.

very curious to find out where this assignment is heading towards as an end product.

on a technology note this project has helped my illustrator work greatly learning about the alignment pallet . sweetness.

Displayed above are some of my studies.
will scan in manipulated images in a later post.

Layering/Transparency

I found the assigned reading very inspiring in a manner of perspectives I've never focused much on.
The concept of using images from a 3D source (such as a photo of a room) on top (or below) an image of a 2D surface (a piece of lined writing paper) creates a wonderful feel of layering on a level of its own.
In the past I've thought the layering system as a way to organize different elements in a way of what is underneath and what is on top.  Now I have a much stronger idea of how to use the concept of layering to  make compositions much stronger through the use of layering to were the layers harmonize with each other rather then just sit on top of one another.
The chapter on transparency was as equally pleasing to read, in fact, it inspired me to make a transparency study in photoshop.  The fact that layering and transparency work hand in hand never

occurred to me for some reason until after the reading.
i look forward to hopefully applying these aspects to an upcoming assignment.

FINAL STATEMENT

So, this final product of mine required more then I can give personally. I feel that to much was required in to little of time and at a high grading cost.
I fully understand that a designer needs to be able to produce above and beyond in a short amount of time with next to perfect craft. but I also understand that Im in design school to learn these skills over the time Im here and not all at once.   The overall craft of my book is poor and Im not going to argue about it because i know it is, and i know thats what i will be told. I totally wish, however that I chose a different topic because it was a huge blow to the out come and my ability to find useable resources in contrast with my small budget.  If the whole of my project was just black dots i feel it wold have had a better end quality.

Over the corse of the project i didn't think about a lot of the concepts we learned about because of the constant rush to make things work they slipped right out the window and came into realization after the book was completed.
I am very displeased with myself, my work, and how much i was not able to apply myself because of the time. But at the smallest level Im happy I finished the book to a completed state.
The typography aspect of the assignment I complete enjoyed, I feel i was successful in the use of type in  most of the type compositions created.

I believe the thing i could improve the most on above all is craft,  it will be hard because hand craft is not my biggest skill unless ample time is given and i have a feeling it wont be.
I took the liberty of smudging the front cover of my book with charcoal  to better relate the craft to the topic of history which in my mind has a grainy grungy dirty look to it.

Im hoping we will learn some more stuff computer related soon so can work more fluidly

Vis Com! yea project update

So after night of extensive circle drawing, I've concluded with several drawing and one changed word to a synonym.   I changed the word -insert- to assist. the reasoning behind the change was similar ideas of compositions between the original and other words.

so far I'm enjoying this project i need to start hunting materials for the project. Im thinking my best bet would be to find some national geographic magazines will benefit in a great amount of textures and useable images.
Im on the hunt for images of old temples, nomadic people, indigenous people and agricultural and some other categories.

Back From the Sticks

So there is still absolutely nothing like being out in the wilderness. No internet or phone signal will turn most people away, but thats a good reason to go journey in the wilderness.  some of the workshops out at the festival were very cool.  i learned that you can make a hydrogen cutting torch with a battery, water, and some other doodads. Its also more effective then your general cutting torch because the hydrogen flame reacts to the material your cutting and changes the amount of heat to the ideal range to cut! as well as that cool effect with using this method another perk from the device is that the byproduct that is produced is structured water.

you can also make a super effective wind energy generator using a DC magnetic motor belted to bicycle wheel.  to help the wheel collect moving wind just add duck tape! You can seriously make allot with duct tape.

a good way to do a garden without tilling involves 5 layers of newspaper before winter and your seeds. the paper gets covered with snow and such kills off the grass/ plants in the area were you putting your garden and when planting season comes lay down composted soil and blammo you got a kick ass garden that you didn't have to spend hours tilling.

If you got a lawn by all means why not grow your own food for cheeper then it is you just go buy it. that way you know what went into what your eating.  all health problems start with what you ingest my friends. the more pesticides and fertilizers you eat the more unnatural chemicals you got in your diet and cells!

If you let your lawn grow itself including other things that are not grass you will attract more birds  then someone who tries to keep only grass. but what benefit do you have for only having grass next to nothing except a lawn full of a small plant that you can do somethings with but not much at all. most weeds have a use!  think of the meaning living off the land. Now a days people exploit the land, who likes being exploited? I sure don't why would our planet

9 Words For 9 Images

History's Cycle

The following words will be used in Project One.
The choice of these words will be to visually communicate basic terms relating to humanities' historical relationship with our planet and relate to our time, the basic elements that created, shaped, and collapsed civilization. Hopefully the viewer of the final product with make mental connections to these events in history and inspire an evolved state of consciousness of the world around us.

1. Evolution
2. crumble
3. community
4. nomadic
5. gathering
6. assist
7. Pattern
8. Growth
9. Nourishment

NOTE: Words might change by friday if better term is discovered to fit the ideal content I'm looking for

Find And Share

Below you will find a very remarkable image using elements of cropping, positive negative space, layers, scaling, and correspondence to achieve the message Displayed within the image quite perfectly I might say. The image Screams a riot of design elements. many more then I have listed. My favorite is the sense of depth using layering and negative space harmoniously together.

Mind Mapping Life In History

Words spawned from mind mapping exorcize still thinking of a general topic other then the base word, History. Seeing as the words are general topics of history and some that are still present today a term will have to surface soon as a categorizing topic.
